On Friday, January 6, 2023, Mr. Pierre Poilievre, the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada paid his first official visit since he won the Party leadership campaign to Toronto Chinese community. Under arrangement made by the Party outreach apparatus, he met at a Chinese restaurant people selected from certain Chinese ethnic groups and social media.
I chanced but not to be selected to join in such an event. I saw single those new faces in such kind of an event, not the other familiar faces from the Party leadership campaign teams when PP sought the leadership. Neither the familiar faces from Chinese Canadian organizations, which are mainly composed with the CPC members.
During the Party leadership campaign, I participated in one roundtable meeting with PP and one lunch conference with PP. I have been involved in several federal campaigns. I know that there are three organizations of the kind, namely, the Chinese Canadian Conservative Association, CCCA, the Canadian Federation of Conservative Organizations, CFCO, and the Federation of Chinese Canadian Conservatives, FCCC in Toronto Chinese community. Unfortunately, I could not find the familiar faces at this event.
However, the faces that were new at this event are not new at some pro-Beijing rallies. As an example, Mr. Simon Zhong is one community organization leader conspicuous in Toronto Chinese community. He is the co-president of the 27th Session of the National Congress of Chinese Canadians, one of pro-Beijing Chinese ethnic groups. It is said that Mr. Simon Zhong has also been invited to the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in Beijing, as the overseas representative.
Mr. Simon Zhong once filed two lawsuits against inflammation in defense against rumours that he used to conduct as a Queen’s award-monger. One case was given motion order against the respondent who failed to comply with the rules of the court procedure. The other case was settled with the respondent. However, the rumours were still haunting. The rumours have not been cleansed throught a trial.
Mr. Joe Li, a York Regional Councilor acted as the master of ceremony at the event was found sitting on the front row together with Mr. Simon Zhong at the 27th Session of the National Congress of Chinese Canadians.
On another occasion, it was reported that Mr. Joe Li failed to provide any examples of these “hatred message” from O’Toole when he sat on a CCCA news conference acting as its spokesperson, which claimed that “Mr. O’Toole, your hatred message on China is dangerous as that would easily be translated into an ‘anti-Chinese’ message,” in a statement.
I have to say that I am very concerned that PP is blocked from accessing the real and true Toronto Chinese Community and that PP is trapped with pro-Beijing Chinese ethnic groups.
It would be taken for a case study of foreign interference committed by the Chinese Communist regime.
