Call Ma’s Resignation Rallies on Saturday of Dec 20

Rallies will be standing up in front of Mr. Ma’s constituency office located at 3601 Highway 7 East, Markham on Saturday of December 20, 2025. Those rallies will raise up the volume of the voice enough to push Mr. Ma to resign MP.

During the preparation for those rallies, two articles written by Jonathan Fon, the spokesperson of the Canadian Volumes Watchmen Association were published on 51.ca were widely spread out in Chinese diaspora. The articles represent the surprise and anger to demand Mr. Ma’s resignation and promoting legislation to avoid such defection of crossing the floor carrying constituents’ trust.

Here is a brief of the two articles, which were originally written and published in Chinese.
Michael Ma's Defection to Liberals Sparks Outrage and Calls for Electoral Reform
Michael Ma, the Conservative Member of Parliament for the Ontario riding of Markham—Unionville, unexpectedly crossed the floor to join the Liberal Party. The announcement, made suddenly without prior warning, caused "surprise and rage" within the Chinese Canadian community and among his constituents.
Ma was elected in the April 2025 federal election, securing his seat with 27,055 votes, representing 50.65% of the total ballots cast. The author of the article argues that voters selected the Conservative Party platform, not Ma as an individual, especially as he was a parachute candidate unfamiliar with local community affairs. His victory relied heavily on voter trust in the Conservative party and significant funding from the party's campaign resources.
Critics view the defection as an act of betrayal and "deception," a unilateral change that shifts the political balance without the constituents' consent. An online petition demanding Ma's immediate resignation and a subsequent by-election has reportedly gathered over 35,000 signatures, exceeding the number of votes he received and as well as the threshold on Change.org.
.
According to the author, the incident has reignited the debate over the practice of floor-crossing in Canadian politics. While past examples like Bob Rae, Belinda Stronach, and Jean Charest show varied political success after switching affiliations, many are now calling for mandatory legislation requiring a by-election if an MP changes parties. The author suggests this incident could be the catalyst for such legislation, potentially even bearing Ma's name.
The move, combined with another recent defection and one departure from caucus in November and December, puts pressure on Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre ahead of a mandatory leadership review at Calgary, Alberta in January 2026.
